New Era in the Tiko Council

Dubbed as a square peg in a square hole, Mokondo Daniel Ngande, installed Mayor of the Tiko Council on Saturday, 23 November 2013, has been urged not to relent in embarking on projects that will benefit the local population.

The SDO for Fako, Mr Zang III while installing the Mayor in Tiko, reminded him that time for politics is gone and all hands must be put on deck to face the enormous challenges that await him. These challenges are numerous for the Mayor but not insurmountable.

The SDO advised him to resolve conflicts derived from the illegal sale of land especially around the "Big Mop" Market, efficient management of resources derived from the Tiko Market, the tarring of the road leading to the Tiko Port where sand is exported to Equatorial Guinea, finding a befitting location for bread vendors along the Mutengene-Tiko road to avoid accidents, restore order in the motor bike sector, stop the encroachment of land reserved for the Meteorological Centre, restore discipline among the Council staff who harass the population, re-organise the Council's Taxation Department, check rampant insecurity and nuisance from pentecostal churches, contact FEICOM for social amenities, and work in partnership with the administrative authorities.

The new Mayor also has the herculean task of ensuring hygiene and sanitation and destroying dilapidated houses. The SDO assured him of his collaboration and urged the Mayor to work tirelessly for a hitch-free participation of the Tiko population in preparations before, during and after the 50th Reunification Anniversary celebrations slated for Buea. As such, the town of Tiko must be embellished. The Mayor was warned that Council funds are not private funds and there must be accountability. Born 10 January 1966, Mr. Mokondo Daniel Ngande is tasting the Mayor's chair for the second time under the SDF ticket.

Addressing well-wishers at the "CDC SS Club" in Tiko, Mr. Mokondo Daniel Ngande pledged his stewardship to the Tiko population irrespective of political leanings. He thanked the electorate for exhibiting calm and tolerance during the September 30 twin elections, and said he will live up to expectations.
