Eto’o is football’s ‘most wanted’ player

Samuel Eto’o has been making headline news in the transfer market as clubs around the globe are all interested in the former Chelsea marksman who is now a free agent.

Although 33, clubs from Europe, USA, Australia and also Asia have all made a bid to have a taste of the talent the four times African Player of the Year possesses before he bids goodbye to football.

Recently, according to British tabloid, The Daily Mail, Samuel Eto'o has hinted that he is spoilt for choice on his next destination after leaving Chelsea as a free agent.

He tweeted: 'Italy? Spain? France? UK? Turkey? USA?????', before adding: 'But I love USA though...'

Also, on March 01, 2014, Metro Newspaper had reported that Inter Milan was interested in signing Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o, then 32. The Sun on March 23 reported that Eto'o was set to quit Chelsea and return to his former club, Real Mallorca, this summer.

Meanwhile, on April 11, Metro Newspaper said the striker has opened talks with Turkish club Besiktas - his contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer. The Daily Mirror will again send Eto’o’s fans excited when it announced on May 29 that the striker will like to join Arsenal FC.

The race for the striker later took another turn when on June 10, The Express reported that Everton are hopeful they will hold off competition from Arsenal to land the 33-year-old striker. Talk Sport further corroborated The Express on July 3 when it reported that the striker would stay in the Premier League amidst interest from Arsenal and Everton.

With the two English Premier League sides battling for the striker’s signature, The Express will again report that the striker could join Italian giants, AS Roma, if they can meet his pay demands of £60,000-a-week. Meanwhile, The Daily Mail on July 8, said the striker was on his way to join former Chelsea teammate, Ashley Cole in Roma.

The Mirror later claimed that West Ham could land the forward in the coming weeks but they were later challenged by newly promoted Queens Park Rangers who later on withdrew, due to Eto’o’s high wage demand.

Recently, another Barclays Premier League side, Sunderland have launched a bid to sign the player but are recently challenged by Dutch Eridevise side, Ajax Amsterdam, who are the latest to seek the striker’s signature.

They have been rumours of clubs like Manchester City, Monaco and Juventus all yearning for the signature of the striker.

Meanwhile, in Asia, Chinese Premier League side, Guangzhou Evergreen, showed interest in signing the striker.

Eto’o will have to step down his demand or might risk being without a club when the transfer window closes on August 31, 2014.

English clubs, including West Ham, QPR and Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur,Arsenal AS Monaco.

Napoli are also thought to be admirers of Eto’o, with Rafa Benitez eager to bolster his attacking line-up ahead of another assault on the Serie A title.

In the meantime, Spurs are facing the distinct possibility of entering a bidding war with AS Monaco for Eto’o with the billionaire-backed French club likely to come out on top.

Spurs are also thought to be keen on recruiting the experienced forward, who has won Champions League titles with both Barcelona and Inter Milan, but the north Londoners have yet to publicly declare their interest in the striker.

But, after Rangers were not prepared to meet the Cameroon international’s financial demands, The Mirror have claimed that West Ham could land the forward in the coming weeks.
