Court judgment renders 20 orphans homeless

A recent ruling passed by a Kumba Magistrates’ Court, has left over 20 orphans of the Chlephic Orphanage homeless in the Mile One neighbourhood, The Post has learnt.

The post gathered that, the court ruling came on the heels of a suit by the landlord against the motherless babies’ home over unpaid house rents.

According to Sheriff Bailiff Alobwede Epie, who executed the court action, once a warrant of possession is issued, it has got to be executed. Epie stated that it was unfortunate that the issue concerned orphans.

According to a senior staff of the orphanage who refused to be named, news of the children’s properties being thrown out came when they had taken one of the orphans who was ill to the hospital.

The official lamented that, the court had proceeded to pass judgment on the case concerning the house rents even when they also had a pending a complaint against the landlord for destroying properties belonging to the orphanage.

When The Post visited the orphanage Friday, August 1, one of the children disclosed that they were still struggling to pack into a temporary place, given that most of their belongings were still outside.

It would be recalled that in a chat with reporters Sunday, May 19, 2013, the Director of the orphanage, Robert Agbor stated that, the orphanage was going through crises from the Government, landlords and other childless families.

He regretted that when donor agencies send money, some Government officials still nurse the greed to pilfer from orphans. He cited an instance where over 7omillion FCFA got missing along the corridors of the Ministry of Social Affairs “because everybody became interested in the money”
