Over 11,000 tonnes of cocoa sold from 2013-2014 campaign

According to the first cocoa statistics from the 2013-2014 campaign for the three basins of production, more than 11 000 tonnes has already been sold. A little more than 11 000 tonnes of cocoa has already been marketed for the 2013-2014 marketing year. These first raw statistics concerns mostly the departments of the Lékié in Lékié, Mbam-et-Kim and Mbam-et-Inoubou. In detail, more than 6,500 were sold in Lékié, 1,300 in Mbam-et-Kim and more than 3,665 in Mbam-et-Inoubou.
This was according to the mid-term review of the Programme of support from the Organization of marketing (Aoc) and the evaluation of the conduct of the cocoa campaign in the areas of production, which occurred recently in Monatélé.
In the Lékié Department, results were achieved through the Aoc pilot program established by the inter-professional council of cocoa and last year, which aims to improve the marketing of cocoa in the various basins of production within the Department.
An organization of producers will also help to have more reliable figures on production, especially at the level of the export. "We know that these basins produce and market more than what is declared, explained Jean Didier Eyada,who is charged with the remediation of internal marketing of cocoa.
This is because of the lack of funding for producers, the isolation of the production zones which are still not access of buyers and the lack of consolidation of some producers into cooperatives, which would enable them to benefit from the fruits of their labor.
Despite these difficulties, the program was able to produce hundreds of markets during the cocoa campaign and most producers have started grouping themselves into cooperatives.
