Beer consumption in Cmr increases by 20 million hectoliters

These unofficial figures were advanced by the national Union operators of beverage in Cameroon, on the occasion of the International Beer Festival celebrated coming up soon.

According to Roger Tapa, president of the national Union of exploiters of Cameroon beverage (Synedeboc), Yaoundé has nearly 6000 officially identified bars. These, says the president of the Syndeboc, are those that have been duly registered by the beer operating companies.

The census does not take into account the "clandestine". This number however goes beyond 10,000 bars according to Union estimates.

These figures are difficult to prove or disprove an official from the prefecture of Mfoundi reveals.

"we cannot tell you the exact number of bars which operate in the city" reveals an official at the prefecture of Mfoundi, "because it depends on the category of bars”.

During the international beer day celebration which comes up 1st Friday in the month of August, some repoters went down to the field on a street for sampling.

They discovered that from the place called « Bout carré » to the "Mobil Omnisports" that passes entirely through the Essos neighborhood, not less than 142 bars were counted.

Le Messenger, in its issue No. 4, revealed that the consumption of beer in Cameroon had increased by 20 million hectoliters a year, from about 600 in 2012 to 650 millions of hectolitres this year.
