Shu Fontem Laid to Rest in Bafut

Shu Fontem John, the dedicated senior journalist and founding member of the traditional Bafut Manjong is now on the side of his ancestors.

The principled and dynamic journalist and father who went to the world beyond recently, was buried in his Manji-Bafut neighbourhood on August 30, 2013 with a college of church ministers, colleagues, relatives and friends paying tributes to the man who rose to expectation and stood by professional and ethical prescriptions.

His professional career spanned over 35 years during which he was cheered as a creative journalist in the then Radio Cameroon where he assumed duty in 1965. He took credit for presenting the programme "Where We Are" which later became "Cameroon Calling". He later served as a newscaster and lectured at the then International School of Journalism which later became ESSTIC or the Advanced school of Mass Communication, ASMAC.

Shu Fontem John equally served as the Director of Information at the National Social Insurance Fund (CNPS). He is also remembered for services as the Delegate of Communication for the North West before retiring in 2000.

Literature paraded at his funeral revealed that Shu Fontem John leaves behind a widow, six children, 14 grandchildren and other relatives to mourn him. His wife, Asoh Deborah, children and grandchildren like Caroline, Fuh, Neba, Lum,Manka'a and Asoh Noelle remember that Shu Fontem John was full of wisdom and rose to expectations as a father, role model and veritable pathfinder for the family.
