Logone and Chari - Confidence On Both Sides

The CPDM and NUDP are all chanting victory based on the mobilisation they witnessed on the field during campaign.

The atmosphere in Logone and Chari Division is heavily charged with expectations from followers of both the CPDM and NUDP. Authorities of both parties are all chanting victory ahead of the September 30 polls.

The CPDM held its evaluation meeting at the party house in Kousseri yesterday September 26 where authorities agreed that all went well on the field. Apart from the difficult terrain, everything went according to plan, according to the Representative of the Campaign, Adoum Gargoum, campaign leader for the Division. "We are in constant communication with people on the field and report is indicating that the CPDM will perform better than it did in 2007", he said.

President Paul Biya's party was even more present in constituencies where they have no competitors. In effect, five of the ten Sub-divisions in Logone and Chari are already for the CPDM as far as council elections are concerned. These include: Blangoua, Darak, Fotokol, Hile-Alifa and Makary. The population of the two Sub-divisions however gave the party some insomnia.

The people of Zina and Blangoua went for their daily activity which is fishing when the campaign team arrived. That was however a lesson for the party which quickly understood it had to take exceptional measures to ensure that these people cast their votes on voting day. The party is waiting for September 30 as one man since it succeeded in sinking all the differences provoked by the establishing of candidates' lists.

The NUDP on its part is continuing with campaigns on the field with what they now refer to as door-to-door canvassing for votes. The campaign team braved the odds and mobilised militants and other voters in Kousseri, Waza, Zina, Logone-Birni, Maham, Fotokol, Makary, Hile-Alifa, Drak, Blangoua and Goulfey. From every indication, officials of the party are nursing no fear as they have equally been singing the song of victory.

"Our problem is no longer whether we will win but what percentage shall our victory score", Halil Hassana, head of the Legislative list declared.
