Chief Ayamba, SCNC Chairman is no more

The Chairman of the Southern Cameroons National Council, Chief Ayamba Ette Otun, has died.

Chief Ayamba died at Mamfe in Manyu Division of the Southwest Region on Wednesday, June 18 at Dr. Godson Oben’s Hospital.

As Chairman of the SCNC which fights for the self determination and independence of the Southern Cameroons from what is termed the annexation and colonisation by La Republique du Cameroun, Chief Ayamba suffered several arrests, detention and torture by Yaounde authorities.

“In spite of his nonagenerian age, plus failing health, Chief Ayamba braved the odds as a committed leader and travelled worldwide to campaign for support to the struggle.

According to SCNC activists, Chief Ayamba kept rich archives and copious lega documents on the history of the Southern Cameroons which they fear might be tampered with by “enemies of the struggle” if his family is not careful.

Chief Ayamba succeeded Dr. Martin Ngeka Luma as SCNC Chairman, when the latter died in April 2003.
