'Youths should invest their money and cut down on leisure'

Fako’s delegate of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Isaac Ekombe Mbua, has urged youths of the division, to invest their time in resourceful ventures rather than spend it in leisure.

The delegate said this in a chat with The SUN, ahead of the celebration of the 49th edition of the National Youth day.

He said the youth must get involved in gainful activities in every aspect of the society, and should embrace patriotism and promote peace, where ever they are and in whatever they do.

Ekombe Mbua, while talking on the theme of this year’s celebration, Youth and the Preservation of Peace for an emerging Cameroon, said it is very apt, considering the security threat currently plaguing the country.

“You need to understand that, those who are involved in these senseless killings in the North are all youths. There is a general fear that, the youth will be recruited or involved, conscripted in some cases where they will not have an opinion or decision to take, and then they get involved in what all of us see as senseless” he emphasised, and said thus, the government thought it wise that the youths should be well oriented.

“The youth should be called up to reason, for them to know that what is happening in the North is bad and they should not be part of it”.

Talking on the effort of the government to instill in the youth the culture of peace, the delegate explained saying, “I think that, if this country is peaceful, it is thanks to the fact that the youth are very reasonable in the preservation of peace.

The government has entreated educationist to play their part to ensure that while children are growing up from pre-nursery, nursery, primary to secondary levels, they instill the culture of peace into the minds so that they can grow knowing that violence is not or should not be part of them. There is a lot being done both for the youth who are in former schools and those who are not in schools.

A lot of seminars are organized here and there sponsored by the government and equally international organization interested in peace.

The world as a whole is suffering from insecurity, and so, if we are enjoying the peace that we have in Cameroon, it’s a value, and the government is doing everything to make it possible that this culture of peace remains in the true value of all Cameroonians”.

On the issue of bilingualism which is a valuable gem of the nation, Ekombe Mbua said “If you are not bilingual in this country, you lack something, that is, you are not a true Cameroonian and so, even in our own little corner both the youths and the adults are all involved to make sure that bilingualism is part and parcel of them and the country as a whole”.

He continued that if one can speak one of the languages and can understand the other language, they can be considered bilingual. “So, no matter the level, you should have some understanding of the other language either in writing or in speaking”.

Talking on how far preparations for the youth day celebration have gone, the delegate said so far, there have been two preparatory meetings, the first a general meeting and the second involved only the chairpersons and after that, the activities kicked off without any problem.

“The activities are ongoing, socio-culture and sport activities which are currently taking place in the Community field, Council hall etc, where youths exhibited their hidden talents.

The delegate concluded that so far, all is going well, except for the usual problem, which has to do with funds.
