Young people can take advantage of renewable energy

A sector meeting was held on Thursday in Yaounde by the National Employment Fund to present the opportunities of the transition to renewable energy.

Renewable energy is the concept of the moment in the energy sector as a source of employment and positioned as the area in need of training and investment.

These new forms of energy (solar, hydro, wind, thermal, biogas) could benefit the youth by providing employment as well as opportunities for self-use.

These tracks could be materialized by homemade tools to support energy production. It is in order to present these opportunities that the National Employment Fund (FNE) organized on Thursday a sector meeting on the theme "Renewable Energy and potential projects in Cameroon: prospects and job opportunities for young people" .

The exchange framework will identify trades and professions for the innovative industry, optimize the various opportunities offered by renewable energy sources and to develop strategies to promote and sustain developement.

This meeting comes at a time when Cameroon has a deficit in electrical energy characterized by frequent outages. Among the 13,104 localities that make up Cameroon, less than 4000 of them are electrified. This is due to obsolescence, unavailability and low capacity of production equipment, transmission and distribution of electricity, hence the observed power cuts in cities and villages.

This was an opportunity for the regional delegate of the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOP) from the center, Bernard Telep, to assert that the use of renewable energy, both for domestic needs and for the industry, will mitigate these deficits, while contributing to the energy transition of Cameroon.

To do this, he stressed the importance of adapting vocational training to the realities of the job market. This could be done through a partnership investment of human resources with the National Employment Fund (FNE).
