Young Africans empowered to contribute in development

The African Region YES Alumni Innovation Camp is ongoing in Yaounde with focus on Information technology and development.

This year’s camp scheduled to run from 16th to 22nd November seeks to empower young Africans on the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to provide creative and innovative solutions that will impact their communities and institutions in a sustainable manner.

Participants at the forum are former beneficiaries of the YES Scholarship programme for young people to undertake a one year educational exchange trip to the United States of America.

During the one-week camp, participants will be upgrading their skills on how to become useful actors in the development of their communities and how to cultivate leadership qualities.

The scholarship scheme was launched in Cameroon five years ago. This year, eight Cameroonian youths have been selected to undergo the one training in different states of the USA.

The programme is an annual selection of outstanding students in form five in the English sub system and “troisieme" in the French sub system of education to undertake a one year Educational Exchange Programme in the USA to study the American development model.

Upon return, they are expected to impact their communities positively using the skills picked up in the USA.
