Yaounde to host February reunion on Boko Haram War

African Union security experts and representatives of countries that are under the threat of Boko Haram will hold a meeting in Yaounde, Cameroon on February 5-7, 2015.

Professor Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations has confirmed the reunion which is under the framework of the May 17, 2014 Paris Security Summit.

He was guest on RFI’s newscast in the morning of January 30, 2015 under the auspices of the 2015 African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was revealed that the Lake Chad Basin Commission’s resolution of January 20, 2015 in Niamey, Niger has been tabled at the AU Peace and Security Council, which will forward it to the United Nations Security Council.

The AU has called for the creation of a 7,500-man regional force. Experts will discuss on the rules of engagement to guide the multinational force against Boko Haram during the February 5-7, 2015 meeting in Yaounde. Furthermore, an appeal for funding has been made to help the multinational force operate effectively.

Meanwhile, there are plans to request for a UN mission to help suppress the Nigeria-based Islamist sect.
