Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the Cameroonian Minister of communications, announced Friday that malnutrition in the country has decreased.

According to the Member of the Cameroonian Government, the number of people facing malnutrition moved "from 4.700.000 thousand from 1990-1992 to 2,300,000 thousand people for the period between 2012-2014, a reduction by half in two decades the number of people affected by malnutrition", said the Cameroonian official during a press conference held in the Cameroonian capital.

According to Mincom, these efforts earned Lazare Essimi Menye, Minister of agriculture and rural development (Minader) an international recognition. The 'diploma', was handed over Monday 08 June in Rome, on the sidelines of the 39th conference of FAO, in recognition for the efforts of countries for achieving one of the objectives of the Millennium for development (MDG-1).

Before adding on the same subject, "the country moved from 37.8% between 1990-1992 to 10.5 per cent for the period between 2012-2014,” a reduction of over 2/3 the number of persons concerned in two decades.

The Cameroonian authorities welcomed the "remarkable performance" which allowed the achievement of this objective of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) before the deadline of January 2015, set by FAO.
