World Customs Administration - Cameroon Gets Vice Presidency

Minette Libom Li Likeng was elected Friday at the end of the 19th conference of DGs.

Cameroon, through the Director General of Customs, Minette Libom Li Likeng, will officiate as the Vice President of the World Customs Organisation for West and Central Africa for two years. This was one of the fallouts of the 19th conference of Directors General of Customs of the region that held in Yaounde from March 12-14 on the theme, "Communication in Customs: Strengthening regional economic competiveness by sharing information." The conference sought ways of sharing experiences and embracing best practices that could propel the customs sector to better revenue collection and competitiveness.

The election of Mrs Libom Li Likeng came against a backdrop of what experts said is Cameroon's reforms in customs administration that are yielding fruit. The conference saluted reforms carried out by the 23 member countries of the organization and took Cameroon's satellite cargo management through the GPS as a reference worth emulating.

Mrs. Libom Li Likeng said the whole managerial approach of Cameroon's customs is based on the principles of transparency, monitoring and accountability hinged on the many possibilities offered by today's information and communication technologies. The Yaounde confab chaired by the Minister of Finance at the beginning and at the end handled issues like innovative practices on economic competitiveness and performance measurement.
