Water plant for Yaounde to start operating in 2015

Cameroon’s Akom Nyada treatment plant will start processing water by the end of next year to help meet demand in Yaounde.

The facility will process 55,000 cubic meters per day of water by the end of next year, Richard Ebel, vice president of the Environmental Chemical Corp., said today.

The plant is the first stage of a $603 million project led by General Electric Co. and Environmental Chemical.

Water plants in Yaounde supply about a third of the 300,000 cubic meters necessary to meet demand daily, according to the Cameroon Water Authority.

The city has a population of about 2 million people.
