After the suicide bombings in Maroua, which killed 13 people and left 32 injured on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, the governor of the Far North has advised that people should more vigilant.

The message was communicated in the Thursday, July 23, 2015 edition of the Cameroon Tribune.

"I would like us, after these incidents, urge one another to be more vigilant, because for some time, we thought we were out of danger," begins Midjiyiwa Bakari. He continues: “The focus was on the wearing of veils among others but we realized the attacks can come from all sides.”

The governor of the Far North Region identified mutations of the enemy:"These children were used as human bombs shields. Therefore it should be in our interest to still work hard against the insurgents. The motto is consistent vigilance on all fronts. It is a war that has evolved; it has passed the conventional stage to suicide bomber stage."

Regarding the expected response of Cameroon, Midjiyiwa Bakari conceived as a collective approach: "Cameroon has a prevalent concept of defense and everyone should get to work. The closures on the neighborhoods will intensify further. To law enforcement agencies, I recommend that security be strengthened. Systematic checks should apply to all, regardless of social status. We thought the danger was at the border and now we live with this danger."

The governor also up the various authorities to account, "I command immediate demotions of those who will not steadily help fight the course. District leaders including administrative, municipal, traditional, religious, should therefore be involved in this new struggle. "
