Update: Three suspected suicide bombers arrested with explosives

Three suspected young suicide bombers were arrested Thursday evening by the defense forces and Cameroonian security, informs Hamidou Hamadou, Mayor of the 1st district of Maroua.

According to the Mayor of Maroua 1st, the three young boys of about 25 years, suspected of suicide bombing, were arrested and sent to the police station of the 1st district of Maroua.

They were arrested around 17h and one of them was holding a bag containing explosives connected by a switch waiting to explode. Thanks to the swiftness of the rapid intervention battalion (Bir), an elite unit of the Cameroonian army, the bomb was defused.

A fourth suspect is on the run, said the municipal authority.

The operation was made possible through a collaboration between Cameroonian intelligence and motorcycle taxi drivers, we learn.

Since the suicide attacks on Cameroonian soil killing a total of 48 and 123 wounded, the authorities of the Far North region have strengthened security measures.

Midjiyawa Bakari, the governor of the Far North region had banned the wearing of the full veil (Burqa), begging in the streets, street trading.

Since then, the bars are now closed as soon as 18 hours. The administrative authority also called for citizen vigilance by inviting people to cooperate with the police and all the intelligence services.
