University community pays tribute to Prof. Agbor Tabi

The Amphi-theatre 700 of the Univerity of Yaounde I was filled to the brim, yesterday June 2, 2016, as members of the university community in Cameroon, cabinet ministers, family, friends and sympathizers of late Prof. Peter Agbor Tabi turned out to pay homage to the fallen hero.

The academic tribute organised by the University of Yaounde II, Soa, where before his death he was the Board Chairman, was a moment for the entire university system in the country to acknowledge the contributions of Prof. Agbor Tabi who served in various capacities as a lecturer, Director of the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC), Rector of the Uiversity of Yaounde I, Minister of Higher Education, amongst others.

Various speakers at the event highlighted the sterling professional qualities of Prof. Agbor Tabi and described him as humble, hardworking and exemplary.

The Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Academic Orders, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, said he was a talented teacher, good manager whose contribution to the university community will forever remain indelible.

To the Rector of the University of Yaounde II, Prof. Ibrahima Adamou, the late Board Chairman was a resolute and firm leader whose rich academic experience will be greatly missed by the institution.

To the Director of IRIC, Pierre Emmanuel Tabi, the institute has lost a great teacher whose contribution will remain engraved in the history of IRIC.

In an academic tribute, Prof. Laurant Zang, Head of Department of Diplomacy and Professional Studies at IRIC, highlighted the achievements of Prof. Agbor Tabi throughout his academic career that began in 1982.

His instrumental role in university reforms and the creation of new State universities, amongst other achievements in university circles where he served with loyalty and diligence, merited glowing tribute, he noted.

His departure, Prof. Zang stated, has created a vacuum which will be difficult to fill. Prof. Agbor Tabi will be laid to rest in his native Ndekwai village, Manyu Division of the South West Region, tomorrow Saturday June 4, 2016.
