United Nations accused of complacency with Boko Haram

United Nations United Nations

Accusing fingers have pointed at the United Nations for supporting Boko Haram, according to l’Emergence issue on Monday, August 3, 2015.

Thus the layout of the multinational force, originally scheduled for July 30, has been extended by the United Nations which indicated that it needs to reflect on the accusation.

For one of the generals of the Cameroonian army close to the folder: "If the United States refuses to sell arms to Nigeria, the United Nations will not support us because when talking about this organization it includes the United States, France, and others.”

With regard to the explanations of the latter, there is every reason to believe that doubt still looms on the operationalization of the joint multinational force: "If the UN mandate is adopted, then this will facilitate the lifting of the funds needed to manage this regional force of over 8,000 men from African countries and of the military liaison officers, bilateral and multilateral partners.

It requires a lot of financial, material and human resources. "Africa alone will not handle this. That is why I believe that it won't be able to service this force for the simple reason that we cannot do without the United Nations", he added.

On the other hand, speaking of African countries, the daily revealed that at the ECCAS Summit held in February, a solidarity Fund of 50 billion FCfa is supposed to be generated. But in the aftermath of the announcement for establishing the multinational joint Force, several African countries have failed in their interest in supporting this idea: "so far, I can tell you that there are countries affected by the war who have not given their contribution and cannot just be separated," confides another military source close to the case.

So far, money which has been recently awarded by the European Union and the United Kingdom to the African Union to equip the staff as well as feed troops is still waiting to be supplemented by African countries that have expressed the wish to rout the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
