U.S. Official Promises More Security Assistance

The government of the United States of America is committed to continue giving Cameroon security assistance in the domain of training and technical support to enable the country effectively carry out its role in ensuring peace and security in the Central African Sub-region.

David Gilmour, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of African Affairs within the U.S. Department of State made the declaration at the Star Building in Yaounde on Monday, March 3, 2014 after discussions with Prime Minister Philemon Yang.

He told reporters after the audience that he came to reinforce the strong relations between Cameroon and United States of America. As to their discussions, he said they talked about topics of mutual interest between the Cameroon and U.S. governments. Some of the topics included economic development, development of Cameroon's democracy and the important security role Cameroon plays, especially with regard to the conflict in the Central African Republic and insecurity in Nigeria. He said the U.S. government has a system of security assistance and would continue with security programmes to assure Cameroon's security, as well as that of other countries in the sub-region.
