Two suspected witches escape lynching

Agnes Marie, 64 and Susan, 69 are currently in police custody in Ndokoti for allegedly practising witchcraft at the Brazzaville neighbourhood in Douala.

They were first taken to the Judicial Police in Bonanjo after being rescued from an angry crowd that was about to lynch them. They were thereafter transferred to Ndokoti.

According to police report, Madeline, who has lived in the quarter since 1978 reportedly convey a message to Agnes Marie through her witchcraft partner, Susan, to get off her back. Madeline said since she came to the quarter in 1978 with her two children, getting another child has been a nightmare.

She said Agnes M. Kept having sex with her and feeding her with flesh in her dreams, and when she sees her in the morning, she will tell her it is just the beginning. She reportedly said when she succeeded in giving birth after a long struggle, the child died mysteriously after three weeks.

After passing on the message, Susan admitted she used to practice witchcraft but since she was striped and beaten for transforming into animals like snake and cats and for killing children, she stopped practising witchcraft.

Agnes M. Got the message and took the matter to the chief of Bloc 15 in Brazzaville who immediately summoned the three women concerned.

Upon his arrival at the venue, the Bloc 15 chief noticed that the whole neighbourhood was present, armed with heavy objects and ready to take action against the two suspected witches. With the timely intervention of the police at the 8th District Police Station, they were rescued.
