Two months and counting; GP2MC still on strike

For more than 36 days now, the professional group of Cameroonian merchants, seamen (GP2MC) have been on strike. The company asked the Minister of transport to apply the clauses of the agreement it granted which would give them permission to access the autonomous port of Douala.

Obviously ready to abandon everything and fight up to their last breath, they claimed legally and legitimately, for better treatment which would enable them practice what they know in a responsible manner.

A well organized company structured and recognized by the Department of transportation, the GP2MC is a unit of ship maintenance. "We have been calling our authorities to the Douala autonomous port since July 02, 2014." We had obtained their approval since January 2014 and it was delivered August 2014.

We have been on strike for 36 days and we have never had correspondence from the port authorities to restore our rights," explained M. Nna Bedjéme David, Chief of internet communication. Is public manifestation really the solution? All other negotiations were undertaken without happy endings.

The fact that we are not scattered or stopped by the police and security clearly shows that our claims are fair. "We want the Ministry of transportation to give us this permission, that will allow us to access the port", M Djouondo Jean Michel, Director of communication of the GP2MC" added.
