Two GCE O Level candidates arrested for fraud

Two female GCE O level candidates were arrested while writing the GCE O Level exam at the Lycée Bilingue de Deido examination centre on Friday, June 5.

The candidates who were later known to be relatives aged 18 and 19 were students of the Lycée Bilingue de Deido and Collège Bilingue du Centre de Bépanda respectively in Douala.

Their arrest was as a result of a telephone conversation one of the girls had with her teacher. On Thursday one of their teachers received a text message from one of the student seeking answers to a question on literature and English language tests. The teacher said he gave only one response, "to go and revise her notes".

According to CRTV radio correspondent in the Littoral, the teacher discovered that the questions he received the previous day was the same as the one sent to him by the student.

He then decided to alert security officials at examination centre to expose the students. The Police who alerted examination supervisors brought out the two candidates from their exam hall for explanation.

They were first taken to the police station of the 9th district, and then the police took over for further investigations.

When asked about the origin of the said questions, they reported having received it from a close friend. The police is currently working on identifying the latter with the help of the alleged fraudsters.

They were referred to the prosecutor of Bonanjo on Tuesday morning, June 9, 2015 for official examination fraud.
