Transport union clashes with Anti-Balaka

Transport and drivers' union of Cameroon are protesting against the death of one of their members in Balembe in the Central African Republic. Adamou Alhadji was reported to have been allegedly killed on 5th June 2014 by members of the anti-Balaka.

His death has once again brought to the limelight the degree of insecurity in the country. More so,it is alleged that he is the fifth victim to be killed in 2014.

As a protest, all the drivers who transport goods from Cameroon to Central Africa especially goods from the Douala seaport to the landlocked country demand that their security be guaranteed before normal activities resume.

Consequently, close to 300 heavy duty vehicles are stationed in Garoua-Boulaï as the drivers insist that the governments of both countries take concrete measures to secure the corridor.

According to reports, the vehicles are stationed haphazardly causing untold misery to the population of the area.

A crisis meeting was held and administrative authorities of the East Region assured the drivers that appropriate measures are being put in place to protect them.

The incident took place at a time when the transitional President of the Central African Republic, CAR, Catherine Samba-Panza and political party leaders met to discuss ways of quelling the violence in the country.
