Trade between Cameroon and Chad disrupted

Trade and economic exchanges between Cameroon and Chad have witnessed disruption over a few days now after the suicide attacks by the Nigerian terrorist sect Boko Haram, which multiplied its incursions against Chad these past three weeks.

After having initially closed the borders, both countries decided to reopen them but increase controls at border posts. This situation has resulted in congestion observed at the Nguéli bridge on the Logone River that links the two countries.

"We are experiencing enormous difficulties to reach Chad because of security reasons, it happens that cargoes are totally offloaded to ensure that they are authorized products that are effectively conveyed," complained truckers.

The consequence of this situation is that truckers spend on average three extra days on the other side of the border.

Chad exports and imports 80 percent of its goods from the port of Douala, nearly 1500 kilometers of road journey between Douala and N'Djamena.

Other security measures include the decision to ban cars with tinted glasses as well as the movement of motorcycles in the night.
