Security at Eid prayers Security at Eid prayers

This year’s prayers to mark the end of Ramadan were carried out under high security unlike previous celebrations.

All those present at the prayer grounds were either willingly or forcibly searched before being allowed at the gathering.

The police was at the main entrance while a little further away, the army took charge. Objects which posed threats found on some people were collected and women who wore the burqa were searched.

The same scene or almost has been experienced across the Cameroon throughout the feast of Ramadan. And for good reason, the psychosis of terrorist threats led the authorities to take exceptional security measures for the prayers in mosques and other spaces to host the Eid al-Fitr prayers.

On this occasion, the messages from the Imams focused on the preservation of peace and especially on the risks posed by the burqa during the war against Boko Haram.

"To you my dear Muslim, God requires in surah 33 and in surah 24, that the woman should be covered in a veil. And Allah is clear. In surah 24, Allah says, Muslim, I recommend to you to dress decently and make visible your faces and your hands. Dear Muslims, you are now asked to put in your effort in the path of God. Offer a sacrifice for the survival of your country. And how do you offer this sacrifice? It is by removing suspicion in human consciousness, by making your face visible, to help security and to prevent fear. We must take action for peace and call for vigilance" recommended, Sheikh Ibrahim Bombo Mubarak, president of the national Council of Imams of Cameroon in Douala, who preached at the Bertaud Camp on Friday.

According to Issa Tchiroma, Minister of communication, security measures have intensifiedduring this period where members of Boko Haram hide under full veils to commit attacks.

The 2015 celebrations of Ramadan was celebrated five days after the double suicide bombing which caused the death of at least 13 people in Cameroon.
