Thousands of Nigerians blocked at Cmr border

Thousand Nigerians, women and children being the majority, are fleeing the combat zones in the border area to Cameroon.

They left Madagali, in the Nigerian State of Adamawa for Cameroon. Here, they were welcomed and grouped into Mabak, where the Cameroonian authorities created a temporary camp in a school. Worried about the health situation which is rife in Nigeria, especially regarding the Ebola outbreak, the Cameroonian authorities took emergency measures by blocking them.

Therefore, the municipality of Mokolo has updated their provision of bags of rice, boxes of sardines, water, and bread. During the raid August 28, 2014, the prefect of Mayo-Tsanaga, accompanied by doctors of the health district of Mokolo, took charge of fifty patients who were able to join their countries the next day afternoon.

But the bulk of the displaced are internal, 5,000 people fled the fighting that took place in the area of Tourou 26 and 27 August 2014. These victims apparently are inhabitants of villages Vizik, Ldamag, Ldudam, and those closest to Mokolo, Ganday, Magoumaz and Woudahai looking to find refuge in the county.

All those who tried to join the Minawao refugee camp, were quickly discouraged by officials of the municipality. "They told us that the camp is saturated and that UNHCR can no longer accommodate people", explains a moved.

Many nonetheless revealed that they were able to find shelter with relatives, in the chiefdoms and even in the residences of the elites.
