Tenders for technical studies for the maintenance and rehabilitation of certain routes have been launched.

We begin to see a little clearer on the urban component of the three-year Emergency Plan for accelerated growth in terms of Yaounde and Douala. Two tenders of the Ministery for Public Procurement (MINMAP) are yet to be launched.

The first is the technical studies for the rehabilitation of tracks in Group I of roads of these two main cities, as already clearly identified by the ways that will be relevant in this context.

The tender covers the MINMAP seven lots, two in Yaoundé and five in the economic capital. Thus, 25 consultants have been shortlisted in this context.

The expected benefits are twofold and focus on the preliminary studies and pre-project studies. The different axes that will be affected by the work are also disclosed. The draft study includes a range of services including: detailed inspection of track route, the proposed technical solutions to repair the damage observed, the proposed rehabilitation of street lighting if the existing fails, a proposal for public lighting in the way of equipment, evaluation of work costs and turnaround times.

In the case of Yaoundé, the route of over 17 kilometers, while Douala covers nearly 52 km. As noted Minister Abba Sadou in the columns of CT on June 5, companies will have very little time for the execution of these studies.

The second order of the Minister of Public Procurement covers the complete project management for the rehabilitation of some roads of the two cities.

The 14 pre-selected consultants also will compete in seven lots, four for the city of Yaounde and Douala three. In the case of Yaounde, it is the nearly 27 kilometers road. It includes routes like that from the carrefour Mvog-Mbi in toau to carrefour Mvog-Atangana in Mballa which have become quite famous for their level of degradation, while Douala covers nearly 11 km.

But as can be seen in the two texts, most districts of the two cities are concerned. Thus, in terms of Yaounde, the 7th arrondissement which is not included in the second bidding can be found in the first with the construction of roads to the area Oyom Camp Abang Sonel. While the town of Yaoundé III, which is not in the second tender is well integrated into the first with the rehabilitation of the road to Nsimeyong neighbourhood.

In the economic capital, it was with some excitement that the populations of Douala II await the rehabilitation of the road behind the Total station "Two churches" in Yabassi camp and some others. The study phase will give way to physical implementation of projects, says the MINMAP on June 5 in these columns.
