The prefect of Noun bans the movement of people totally covered

People, men or women who wear the Niqah or Barka (with the face completely covered), have been prohibited from straying in public places in the Noun Department.

This decision was taken by Donatien Bonyomo, the prefect of the Department of the region of West in Cameroon, which according to the latest census, has a population of approximately 95 per cent of Muslims.

The head of the region explained that the restrictions in the movement of people fully veiled, aims to "ensure the safety of the people of the Department of the Noun”.

Read below the full radio-press release signed by the prefect of the Noun To ensure the safety of the population of the Department of the Noun, pursuant to law No. 54/90 of December 19, 1990 relating to the maintenance of order and law No. 2014 / 028 of December 23, 2014, on the Suppression of acts of terrorism, the prefect of the Department of the Noun decided to take preventive measures hereinafter:

1. It is recommended to anyone who would like not to be recognised or identified for reasons known to them to stay home

2. It is forbidden to anyone non-identifiable at sight:

- to use on the public highway

- to borrow a means of public transport (motorcycle taxi, taxi, as long distance transport)

- at frequent places of large gathering such as market, bus station, funerals, hospital, health centre, etc.

3. It is forbidden to trade as a seller or buyer with any person whose face is not visible

4. It is forbidden to manufacture and sell any item whose purpose is to exempt a person from spontaneous visual identification

Any contravention of these measures will be arrested as well as potential accomplices will be brought before the Prosecutor of the Republic. The prefect of the Department of the Noun attached strict observation penalty to the above measures and rely on good citizenship and the sense of responsibility of the populations resident as well as the people who passed way in the Noun Department.
