The Canon-Fovu case is not over

Will Canon stay in Ligue or not? The question inevitably trots in the head of some supporters of Kpa-Kum.

The announcement of the referral by Fovu club of Baham, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is, in fact, likely to change that.

As stated by Keunmegne Jean Pierre, executive director of the club, Fovu brought to CAS last month, a motion to quash the decision of the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration (CCA) of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Cameroon. This, in mid-September, had annulled the judgment of the Board of Appeal of FECAFOOT giving the reasons for Fovu in a dispute with Canon Yaounde.

Ruling on qualifying reservations against the player of Kpa-Kum, Khon John Calvin, aligned at the 6th day of the championship match between the two teams (1-1), the Appeals Board had decided the loss of the match by Canon on penalty for sports. Consequently, Fovu won two points, and now in the elite, while Mekok me Ngonda lost the point of the tie. This demotes them in Ligue 2.

But the decision of the CCA has upset this scheme. The verdict of Lausanne may in any case have consequences for the national championship. Especially when it is obvious that the two clubs fought for the maintenance.

If Fovu is successful, it would remain in Ligue 1 and logically, Canon, whose leaders prefer not to comment, descend to a lower division. Otherwise, the situation would remain as it stands now with Fovu relegated to League 2. Unless the number of clubs is revised upwards, the issue will split the two. The verdict will be known in the coming days.
