Faced with the new methods by Boko Haram, the Cameroonian army has resorted to new approaches to save and protect more lives in the country.

It involves people who are the "permanent" targets of the Islamists. "We trained the people about the concept of self-defense. We chose to start with the people of the Far North who are the direct victims. Their cooperation must be permanent and also educated them on warning signs. We brought them material and psychological assistance. We also showed them how they can protect themselves and how to determine a suicide bomber. The aim is for the active participation of the population through vigilance committees,” a security source told KOACI.

Since the two attacks that hit the country within ten days, Cameroonians are now aware that they are the target of terrorists who can strike anywhere and at any time. It could be in a bar, market, train station, at the entrance of a department at the stadium, hospitals, near schools, or even at a place of worship.

A free hotline (1500) is opened 24/ 7 and is made available to the population to denounce any suspicious persons or packages. The other 115 and 117 hotlines are also free, as informed by sources.

“Cameroon has documented the typical profile of a suicide bomber. I have in my box, the “typical profile of Kamikaze," says Roman , a student of the University of Yaoundé II.
