Thousands of teachers of the primary and secondary schools in Cameroon, again, joined the international community to celebrate the day dedicated to them by the United Nations.

This year's edition is under the theme: "A strong teaching staff for sustainable societies.”

Also, the most deserving of them will be awarded at the multi-purpose Sports Palace in Yaoundé. Moreover, in primary schools, high schools and colleges, teachers will also compete in ingenuity.

It is a time to also review their methods and attitudes in the classroom in order to overcome the challenges ahead. "This is normal because the teachers of today have more personas.”

Many overlook the dressing aspect. "We also noticed that many choose this profession not by the urge, but for the sake of finding employment and a guarantee to be at the public service", explained Michel Kouna, a parent.

Another added: "I remember that in our time one became teacher based on the passion and love for the profession. And the teachings of the teacher were considered as the ‘Gospel’ by the students. A way not only to show that times have changed but also that there are teachers and they are teachers.”

“There are those who put themselves to the task without being rewarded and others who desert classrooms and still collect bonuses. “We welcome the decisions taken recently and we hope that everyone will be treated on the basis of his or her efforts," concluded Asta, a teacher.

Celebrated in a particular context in the fight against the terrorist sect Boko Haram, teachers remain in solidarity with the situation their colleagues experience in the North.

“We are with them wholeheartedly and we encourage them to continue to provide knowledge in their place of employment because it is a sense of duty. Most importantly, they have to stay mentally strong,” said Roger Dieudonné Etsiké, director of a public school in Nomayos.
