The Minister of Communication and government spokesman, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, has praised the excellent relations between Cameroon and Nigeria during a press conference at the Ministry on Monday, July 27, 2015.

The main aim of the conference was to confirm the friendship and working visit of the Nigerian head of state, Muhammadu Buari, to Cameroon on Wednesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 30.

In his introductory remarks, Mr Tchiroma stated that the relationship between Cameroon and Nigeria was exceptional. He added that they are two countries sharing a common land and maritime boundary-which stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the borders of Lake Chad, 2000 km wide.

To remove all ambiguities about the state of relations between Cameroon and Nigeria, the Minister of Communications noted that after Douala and Buea, Nigeria will, in the near future, have a third Consulate General in Garoua.

Also, he argued that when René Emmanuel Sadi, envoy of President Biya, went to Abuja to extend an invitation to President Buari in June, the latter had told him he intended to go to Cameroon before his invitation for the G8 meeting but would do so after Ramadan.

For the spokesman of the government, "if relations between our countries were as bad, president Buari could have chosen to decline such offer."

Furthermore, Mr Tchiroma revealed that President Buari's visit on July 29 and 30 will be the 6th visit by a Nigerian head of state to Cameroon.
