Cameroon is still in preparation towards beating the deadline for the switchover to digital radio and television in Africa on June 17 as established by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) which is fast approaching.

In Cameroon, a digital transition management body has been established: the Monitoring Committee of the Cameroon project digital television (Dtv-Cam). It is a body chaired by the Secretary General of the Prime Minister, Louis Paul Motaze, with the Vice President, the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary.

Beyond the administrative preparations, a vast awareness campaign towards all social classes was organized on the national triangle by the experts of this forum late last year.

Mechanisms have been put in place fro Cameroonians to understand the contours of this "revolution". The contract was awarded to the Start Time company.

The preparations are well underway. At the Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) yesterday morning, the starting point of this shift was not an idle time for Cameroonians technicians and the Chinese.

At the rear of the building, the two rooms to house the digital equipment is almost ready. The technicians were waiting for the equipment which has already been acquired and in the country.

For the final adjustments to be made, a well-informed CRTV source said officials of the office and even the Ministry of Communications are in China for the purpose.
