The President of the Economic and Social Council, Ayang Luc, was appointed to represent the Cameroonian head of state at the new Suez Canal opening ceremony in Ismailia in Egypt on August 6, 2015.

The representative of Paul Biya had the badge of honour to be at par with French President Francois Hollande, who was the guest of honour at the opening ceremony, alongside Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and several leaders of the Gulf countries.

Work to expand the canal which was launched in 2014 cost nearly eight billion dollars in Egypt. The expansion of the Canal is one of the key works of the Egyptian President, Sissi, who launched the project with a huge ceremony for the opening of a new path, barely a year after he was elected in 2014.

The new route, 35 km long and dug parallel to the historic canal expanded to 37 km, will enable the double movement of ships. The new channel promises an impetus for reviving the economy as expected by the Egyptians.
