Student in possession of Indian hemp arrested in Ebolowa

Police officers at the Ebolowa town conducted a heavy chase at the Bilingual High School after being tipped by the headmaster of the school about a group of students who were gambling during school hours.

The Senior Police Officer, Wari Ngange in the company of other policemen took the students by surprise while they were involved in the card game popularly known as ‘ndjambo’ last Tuesday.

Some escaped by jumping over the school’s wall while the less fortunate ones were pinned down by the police. The main police officer’s attention was drawn to one of the arrested students who clutched to a bag. A large quantity of marijuana was found after searching through the bag.

The owner of the bag named Claver Eboko Amougou is in police custody as a result of gambling, a practice that is prohibited in the school. The student aged 20, was interrogated on the source of the Indian hemp that was in his possession.

He later revealed to the police officer that he became a regular consumer and seller of the drugs at the age of 14. According to him, his source is a disabled old woman living in the Nko’ovos neighborhood Nko'ovos behind the Don Bosco complex.

With police escort, the young Claver Ekobo led the way to where the old lady identified as Léonie Mengue lived. She was caught in the possession of Indian hemp stored in small cement bags and ready for the market.

At the police station, the old lady denied knowing the main supplier. She said she only purchases the stuff and deliver to many loyal customers including Claver Ekobo.

The latter informed the First Deputy Commissioner that he never sold hemp in high school or disclosed his business to his colleagues in school.

Both traffickers, Leonie Mengue Claver and Ekobo Amougou are in police custody at the Ebolowa Police Station waiting to be prosecuted. In the meantime measures have been put in place to prevent the supplier from staying in the Ebolowa town.
