"Stories Tellers" art exhibition launched

The exhibition dubbed "Stories Tellers" was launched on Friday in the presence of Minister of Arts and Culture Ama Tutu Muna.

"Art is the opening of the spirit and the awakening of consciences." Artist Barthélémy Toguo mentioned this quote from André Malraux on Friday to justify his interest in the exhibition dubbed, "Stories Tellers which opened on March 6 but will run until October 30 next to Bandjoun Station.

"Stories Tellers" is made up of artists who tell stories. They are in fact storytellers as they all speak about their lives, their singular history", said the sponsor.

The originality of this project is to encourage Cameroonians living abroad, to return to the country and initiate developmental projects.

In total, eight artists were in the spotlight: Cameroonian Christa Eka, Elsa me bali me bala, Gabriel Tegneto and Hervé Youmbi, Americans David Lynch and Carolee Schneemann, Congolese (DRC) Freddy Thompson and Leslie Amine a franco-Beninoise.

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna, went on a tour at the exhibition. At the end of the guided tour of the exhibition which lasted for one hour and fifteen minutes, she expressed her satisfaction.

"Cameroon is full of talent. In this land of Bandjoun, it happens that the likes of David Lynch here to went to Benin only to discover that our culture sells internationally".

She also pleaded for the preservation of our artistic heritage, to avoid it being taken away to Western museums. The Minac announced the imminent establishment of a performing arts market.

It's a project in gestation, and whose progress is promising with the signing by the head of State of the decree creating the direction of the development of the arts.

"If everything goes well in the work of the project, in 2016, it will be a reality," she reassures. In addition, the exhibition venue will be renamed the Bandjoun Station International.
