State Universities - Standards Preoccupy Rectors

The University of Bamenda hosted the conference of Heads of State Universities on Friday April 4, 2014.

Governance in State Universities was topical when Rectors and Vice Chancellors met at their regular conference of Heads of State University institutions on April 4, 2014. The venue was the University of Bamenda with Prof Paul Henri Amvam Zollo of the University of Ngaoundere chairing.

It emerged from the conference that standards, research and quality are at the centre of the initiative to regularly assemble Rectors, Vice-Chancellors and their Deputies. In one lump sum, the codification of the teaching system preoccupies the Rectors and a common platform is the way forward in the face of the new budget programming that is yet to be mastered by all.

The welfare of State universities, orientation and deliberations on difficulties featured prominently on the agenda. It was against this backdrop that the Chairman of the conference, Prof Paul Henri Amvam Zollo hailed the frontline role of State universities during the 50th anniversary of Cameroon's reunification in Buea. He revealed that State universities mobilised human and intellectual resources for the success of the event. He wished well for colleagues who retired after their last conference of 13th November, 2013, welcomed new recruits into the management of State universities and saluted the inception of the conference as "a welcome forum to communicate and share experiences in the management of State Universities". The smooth organisation of the next University games in Douala also featured prominently on the agenda of the conference.
