Soldiers from CAR to protest at Quartier general

Soldiers protest Soldiers protest

While Paul Biya, the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, is "on a short private stay in Europe", Cameroonian soldiers from mission in CAR, are protesting at quartier général des armées in Yaoundé.

The above information was published on Facebook by our colleague Guibaï Gatama, Director of publication of the bi-weekly L’œil du Sahel and specialist in the North Region.

At the moment, the reasons for this movement remains unknown. However one security and defense source who was reached by telephone, said that this situation would be as a result of premium issues.

In December 1999, there was a similar strike by soldiers who returned from CAR – led by the late IB - who had led the coup d'etat and the eviction of Henri Konan Bédié from power in Côte d'Ivoire.

The brigade at quartier général which is currently under the command of colonel Donatien Melingui Nouma, ex number 2 at the Directorate of the Presidential Guard (DSP), is also an important centre for the protection of the capital Yaoundé.
