Simon Bassilekin is no more

The former Finance Minister, Simon Bassilekin, has kicked the bucket after a short illness on Tuesday in at the University Hospital Centre (CHU) in Yaoundé.

Simon Bassilekin who was admitted for a week died at the age of 82. According to medical sources, his health had been fragile for a while.

The residence of the former finance minister, at Essos in Yaoundé, has consistently had relatives and friends trooping in to express their condolence since the announcement of his death on Tuesday at 2:30pm at the University Hospital Centre (CHU).

The former government official first held the position of National Director of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), where he was discharged in 1962 until his appointment as Minister of Finance.

He held the position from December 1990 to April 1991. He was born in Nyebasel in the Mbam and Inoubou district and that is where he will be buried. According to his nephew, Bernard Beyokol, the funeral program will be fixed shortly.
