Senate: Plenary session ends with adoption of 2016 finance bill

The adoption of the 2016 financial law by the members of the upper house of parliament during the November session was the main activities of the Senate during the plenary.

The state budget of about 4.234 billion CFA francs was of prime importance to Cameroonians as a whole as it is designed to propel the country to emergence.

Besides the finance bill, the one month of intensive activities ended with the adoption of six bills, including the state budget of 2016. At the close of the session most senators said they are going home with the fulfilment of job well done.

During the closing the session, Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji gave a panoramic view of the just ended session starting that the finance law voted within a short time could be used to meet up with Cameroon’s 3years emergency plan and promote growth and employment and subsequently the amelioration of the living Conditions of the Cameroonians.

He saluted the frank collaboration between the different arms of government and decried the act of terrorism particularly the terrorist group Boko Haram.
Senator Niat urged senators to commit themselves to the Economic, Financial and Socio-cultural programme of the government for 2016 in order to make Cameroon an emerging nation by 2035.

The Senate President urged the government particularly regional and central authorities to work with parliamentarians more closely for the search for ways and means of adapting the economy to the new challenges in the sector of energy, industry, agriculture, transport and urban development.

During the just-ended session, the Senate also adopted the bill on the agreement between Cameroon and Mali on the free movement of persons and the law governing commercial activities in Cameroon among others.

There were various chairman conferences and committee meetings that took place in the presence of members of government. The different sessions also examined certain bills.

In the domains of control government action two sitting of oral questions were organised. The variety of question put to members of government portrayed the interest of senators in seeking solutions to problems affecting Cameroon.

As a concern, parliamentarian diplomacy, Senate President received the president of the Pan Africa parliament, Roger Nkodo Dang, and participated at a meeting at Geneva organised by the Inter-parliamentary Union.

Deliberations throughout the November session were frank, open and constructive, and was characterised by the wiliness of senators to meet up with their numerous challenges notably, development and the fight against poverty.
