Cameroonian and Congolese troops from the UN Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (Minusca) and the Central Security Forces will now ensure safety on the Bangui-Douala corridor, which is used for all Bangui and Central African Republic supplies.

Cameroonian and Congolese reinforcement of the Bangladeshi contingent have had communication problems with Cameroonian and Central African truck drivers, who went on a strike action to denounce the relentless attacks of armed groups who plunder their goods.

While some of the attacks were offensive, others sometimes resulted in the deaths of some truck drivers. The drivers are reportedly satisfied with the new security measures adopted by the Minusca, Cameroon and Central African governments and the union of truck drivers, after a quadripartite meeting in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Soldiers now accompany the procession of trucks to prevent attacks by armed groups that could create new situations of insecurity on the corridor, according to the new security measures in the Douala-Bangui corridor, announced by the Minister of Transport, Arnaud Abazène, during a press statement in Bangui, Central African Republic on Monday. This was after his return from Yaoundé.

According to Mr. Abazène, 60-80 trucks will be escorted daily on the corridor at a speed of 80km / hour, fast enough to avoid traffic jams.

The new provisions are intended to make traffic fluid on the corridor to avoid the Central breaks on necessities.

The first convoys from Douala to Bangui arrived on the night of August 24. Three accidents, due to poor road conditions, were recorded between Bouar and Baoro which is 200 km from Bangui.
