The Cameroonian Minister of Defense visited Maroua for an emergency meeting on safety measures after Wednesday’s double suicide attack that left 13 dead and 30 wounded, according to a latest report.

Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo'o, on Thursday, announced that security measures had been tightened in Maroua, the main town in the Far North and in the region. He urged the people to be vigilant.

Vigilance and precision were the key words used by the authorities to the inhabitants of Maroua who are still shaken by the attack caused by two female suicide bombers.

Nonetheless, security forces are on the lookout throughout the Far North region of Cameroon. Raids were conducted in the city of Mora, while Maroua was surrounded by the police and the army, according to sources.

The authorities fear that other suicide bombers are infiltrated in the region. Thus security measures, especially at market places, have already been increased.

This includes a section of the market in Maroua where one of the attacks took place. The authorities instructed the closure of “suspicious places such as bars," in the words of the governor, Midjiyawa Bakari.

Also the drastic ban on the full veil (burqa) will be enforced in the area. In fact, the girls who blew themselves on Wednesday were both veiled.

“Child begging is now condemned and foreigners will be more monitored. They are encouraged to register even if no binding action has yet been announced. The authorities want to actually prevent psychosis and any division between communities. So they are walking on eggshells,” said the governor.
