Security forces rescue Ladgo Mayor and 14 other hostages

Mama Abakaï, Mayor of Ladgo in the Northern Region, and 14 other hostages were rescued by the security forces on Sunday night.

According to sources, the operation took place towards the border with Central African Republic (CAR).

They were abducted on the night of March 19, 2015, at Gbabio, a few kilometers from Garoua-Boulaï, by unidentified gunmen presented as CAR rebels. The victims were returning from a funeral when they met their fate that day.

For several weeks, the defense and security forces, intensified the fight against CAR rebels and highway bandits, operating in the Eastern Region.

At the end of last week, the police claimed the death of 15 highway robbers, during an attack at their base.
