Security forces halt protesting civil society organisations

Cameroonian security forces prevented members of civil society, who were preparing a series of debates and press conferences, from proceeding with their protest.

Members of the NGO Citizen Dynamic took advantage of the International Democracy Day to launch a campaign on the theme;‘Governance and electoral alternation for democratic change’.

The ceremony was stopped by security forces who blocked all exits from the Palais des Sports in Yaoundé, Warda crossroads, where debates were scheduled. The various panelists, who were known members of the Cameroonian civil society, were denied access to the sports palace.

A debate on democratic change and electoral governance is prohibited in a country where the President of the Republic, has already spent 32 years as head of state.
