The Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) had an unusual session to discuss several issues including one on "the alarming state of insecurity in the country."

The meeting took place in its stronghold, Bamenda, capital of the North West region on Saturday, August 1, 2015

After reviewing the national news dominated by the war against Boko Haram, the Islamist sect from Nigeria, the sages of the main opposition political party in Cameroon found that “terrorism and extremism have become major threats to our security and freedom.”

After a lengthy discussion, they reached a conclusion that there is a risk of the attacks spreading across the country like those recorded in the northern part of Cameroon, particularly in Fotokol and Maroua.

Ni John Fru Ndi, chairman of the SDF and head of the Executive Committee, said he is intrigued by the "lackadaisical approach to this serious threat to the national security by the Commander in Chief of our armed forces, the head of state, who stubbornly refused to address the nation and to consult the political and civil associations before his response to the sad and tragic events experienced by Cameroon.”

However, the SDF condemned the atrocities committed by the terrorists and reaffirmed its full support to the defense forces and the Cameroonian security.

To win the war that Cameroon fights against the insurgents for about 15 months, the SDF suggested among other solutions “an effective and comprehensive strategy against terrorism must be based on a multidimensional approach that will in overtime solve the underlying factors of radicalization such as exclusion, tribalism, electoral fraud, corruption, stigma and discrimination.”

Long before the SDF's advice, they “reiterated the need for an effective significance in economic, social and cultural development of the affected areas including military and security control strategies to rip-off the roots of terrorism and radicalization leading to extremism ".
