A Decree by the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Philemon Yang, has led to the transformation of secondary education in Cameroon.

Also, 48 new General Secondary Schools (CES) have been created in the 10 regions of the country. It also created 36 secondary technical schools for industrial and commercial purposes.

The change was needed in some areas of the country and the existing facilities were getting old. But instead of only a few as people thought, the Prime Minister made available 84 colleges to young Cameroonians.

The Central Region will have nine new General Secondary Schools. In the Far North, General Secondary Schools will be opened at Loko, Polgue, Guinane, Bouzar, Baiga, Zaklang and Guidiguis.

Another will be established at Fifinda in the South. At the Eastern Region, the boroughs of Mbang, Bertoua I Betare-Oya will also have new educational structures. And in the Northwest, there will be some new establishments at Kichowi, Meluf, Kingomen, Kovki-Mbiame while Ngvuinkei I and Ntaba will have new facilities.

The actual opening of these colleges will be as stated in the text by the Head of Government, based on the decision of the Minister of Secondary Education (MINESEC).

Beyond the establishment, Philemon Yang turned 53 General Secondary Schools into General High Schools while 18 Technical and Commercial Colleges (CETIC) were transformed into technical schools. In this list, those concerned were CETIC of Ngambe Tikar and that of Ngoro in the Central Region. In the East, the CETIC of Doume and Kentzou will become technical colleges.

In the Northwest, most of the CETIC in Mbakong, Njikwa and Mbambalang were all transformed into technical institutions. In the South, CETIC of Mvangan was also transformed into technical school. In the Far North, the CETIC of Datcheka and Mindif were converted. The CETIC of Bombe Bakundu in the South West has become a technical school. The opening date was not mentioned. The Decree of the PM informed that opening awaits a decision from MINESEC.

The last to have caught the attention of the Prime Minister, were the General High Schools. 18 were transformed by the PM to Government Bilingual Schools. In the North, high schools in Mandama and Kollere are now bilingual. The transformation affected the high school in Ebolowa II in the South.

High schools in Fonfuka and Ako, in the Northwest, as well as those of Evodoula, Bokito, Esse, Bikok and Dzeng in the Center are now bilingual. In the West, those in Mbouda Rural, Djebem, Fombap and that of Bafoussam Ndiengdam are now bilingual schools.

The rehabilitation or creation of these institutions will certainly stabilize many young people across the country.
