SYNES rejects education minster's directive to end strike

The Minister of higher education has issued a communiqué which was read over the airwaves of Crtv radio. In this communique he demanded the ending of the strike, an assertion that belies the national Union of higher education.

"The strike action launched by lecturers continue in universities. Teachers don't come to school", decried Priscilla, French student at the University of Douala. This is contrary to what the release of the Minister of higher education said and according to reports, Jacques Fame Ndongo signed this over the weekend.

In the release, he announced the end of the strike launched by the national Union of teachers of higher education (Synes) for the payment of the third part of the special premium for modernization research.

"The coordination of the national Union of teachers of higher education of the State universities gathered on this day 29th November 2014 with those of Bamenda, Buea, Dschang, Ngaoundere, Maroua to denounce the manoeuvres that are currently underway in academia to discredit the Synes which works for the protection of the interests of the teacher(s)", noted a release signed by the Union.

The coordinations of Synes counters all that the release of the Minister of higher education read on the Cameroon Radio Television (Crtv) on November 28 and 29, 2014. Teachers from the Union "regret manipulations and attempts at this disinformation; giving the impression that the Synes endorse partial payment of the special premium.

"The watchword to strike will be maintained until full payment of the third instalment of the premium of the modernization of University research established by His Excellency Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon.

"Jacques Fame Ndongo would win respect for the teaching profession and concern for the fate of the students if he focuses his efforts on the total payment of the premium," they declared.
