Between 2013 and 2015, SNV, the Netherlands cooperation agency, built 164 bio-digesters for households in the rural areas of the Adamaoua region (in the northern part of Cameroon) to produce biogas from cow dung. These investments have been made in the context of the project for "Domestic biogas in Cameroon", supported by the Ministry of energy and water, learned from official sources.

This project which ended June 30, 2015 trained 57 technicians in the use of bio-digesters and reached 30,000 people in 200 villages in the region of Adamaoua. The benefits of this project are such that "the Cameroonian Government would gain much to truly take into account the popularization of biogas in his green energy policy," supported Fidèle Yobo, SNV representative in Cameroon.

The production of biogas in Cameroon remains new as apart from such projects as mentioned, only the hygiene and safety company of Cameroon (Hysacam), which manages contracts for garbage collection in the country, is currently conducting initiatives of the biogas production with the construction of two central catchment area near its discharge in Douala and Yaounde.
