SDO wants ‘bad’ contractors banned

The SDO of Fako, Zang III, has opted for tough sanctions against some contractors who have been classed as ‘bad’ or have grossly been under-achieving in the execution of some public investment projects.

These contracting firms: Ets Almighty, Nakums Enterprise, Ets. Yakkobu, Fons and Bros, UCEP, according to the Fako Divisional Delegate of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, were found wanting in the execution of the contracts that were awarded to them in 2015 and other previous years.

The Delegate madethe disclosure during the launching of the 2016 budget for Fako Division. According to the Delegate, “there were no abandoned projects in 2015,” but reiterated that there were still some contractors tagged as the bad guys, who, since 2014, have not been able to complete their projects.
She said some of the contractors lack either financial resources or the necessary equipment to adequately execute their projects.

While the Divisional Delegate of Public Contracts, Joseph Mbeng, said the unruly contractors will certainly lose some of their money, the SDO, Zang III, said they should rather be banned for two years from receiving any public contract. He said the aforementioned contractors were rather pulling back the development of the Division and that of the country at large.

Meantime, the representative of the Divisional Treasurer for Limbe, Ananias Angoula, disclosed that their service collected FCFA 1.88 billion as revenue for the State in 2015, as against FCFA 1.76 billion in 2014.

But he decried the fact that the Treasury Service in Limbe has been going on for 10 years without a service vehicle. He also said their service office, though a State financial house practically has no security.

“We need a security guard, monitoring cameras and other security measures to ensure the safety of the money we collect for the State,” he said.

The SDO advised that their worries should be packaged and sent to him for onwards transmission Yaounde.
